At first I thought that the picture looked to dark in the background. But at second glance I see that by making the corner nearly black how it really brings Basil to the forefront of the picture.
Your capture of the characters is excellent as is your use of shading to create not only the atmosphere but also the textures of Basil and the poker playing mice.
I have long considered The Great Mouse Detective to be one of my favourite Disney films and I enjoy the way you managed to capture this scene so well.
The only thing that could make this better is if it were to have Dawson in his pirate getup all tipsy

beautiful work! your shading is great, it makes me jealous

if I tried something like this, I'd wind up with pencil marks all over my hand and leaving smudges and get all irritated and throw it away xD but I LOVE this movie, it's so underrated <3

That's hard to avoid. I use a special glove when I draw (smudgegard) and have learn myself to have my hand a few centimetres over the paper so don't touch the paper and only move my wrist not the arm
